Mary Ann Smith
Mary Ann and her husband, Bill, retired after many years as the resident basketmakers at Tannehill Historical State Park and now focus on teaching and sharing their basketmaking skills with others. They were inducted in 2008 into Southern Artistry and are members of the North Carolina Basketmakers Association, the National Basketry Organization, and the Natural Fibers Group. Mary and Bill maintain a full-time studio at home in Alabama, where they teach and host an annual gathering of split-oak basketmakers.
