Beth Hester
Beth learned white-oak basket making from Ollie and Lestel Childress in the early 1980s, and continues as a bearer of south-central Kentucky's tradition. At The Basket Maker's Catalog, she creates patterns, products, and learning opportunities through teaching and hosting workshops with professional basket makers. Her MA in Folk Studies and her connection to basket makers in the Mammoth Cave region led her in 2016-2017 to co-curate an exhibition, "Standing the Test of Time: Kentucky's White Oak Basket Tradition" at the Kentucky Museum. Beth recently served on the board of the National Basketry Organization. She still considers herself a student of white oak and willow and finds her life enriched by these experiences.
