Sylvia Coppola
Sylvia has been working in clay since 1976, earning her BFA from Western Carolina University, and is now a studio potter in Indian Trail, NC. Duck Creek Pottery is the name of her business, with her work is sold in 50 galleries and gift shops throughout the United States. Most of Sylvia’s pots are thrown on the wheel and sometimes altered. She also hand-builds and textures pots, often adding feet and handles to enhance them. Firings take place in her high-fired gas kiln, in a reduction atmosphere with a soothing glaze palette of greens, browns, tans, yellows, and blues. Sylvia teaches workshops at various locations throughout the year, including at the Folk School since 2012.
