Mike has a 45-year career in welding and metal fabrication. He began taking blacksmith classes at the Folk School in 2011, became an assistant instructor in 2014, and instructor since 2016. As an attendee of conferences hosted by the Artist-Blacksmith's Association of North America (ABANA), the Appalachian Area Chapter of Blacksmiths (AACB), and the Southern Blacksmith Association (SBA) he is always learning new techniques and skills. Mike demonstrates frequently for blacksmith guilds and conferences in the southeast. He teaches beginning, chiseling and chasing, and traditional joinery classes at the Folk School, and enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion with his colleagues and students. Mike was presented The Floyd Daniels Award for Promoting Blacksmithing at the 2019 SBA Conference.
