Matthew began his fermentation adventure with a few shriveled potatoes, a packet of fast rise bread yeast, and a healthy dose of beginner's optimism. The resulting batch of potato wine was sweet, alcoholic, and nigh undrinkable. Undeterred, Matt continued to experiment with fermenting wine, beer, kombucha and vegetables. A Georgia native, Matthew is pleased to call this corner of Western North Carolina his home. He came to Brasstown in 2016 following a passion for blacksmithing, and is honored to have been involved with the Folk School ever since. He is currently pursuing an education in welding while continuing to forge, engrave, brew, read, and ponder.
