Jean Poythress Koon
Share:
Jean Poythress was introduced to basketry after retiring from a teaching career. Since then, she has woven hundreds of baskets and earned inclusion in juried shows across the country, winning numerous awards. Her work has appeared in publications such as "Shuttle Spindle and Dyepot" and was the inspiration for a book, "Creative Coiling: The Artistry of Jean Poythress Koon," by Hetty Van Gurp. Jean has taught classes across the country, at venues including Chincoteague Bay Field Station in Virginia, Virginia Living Museum, North House Folk School in Minnesota, Porcupine Mountains Folk School in Michigan, and for guilds including Tidewater Basketry Guild (VA), Columbia Basin Basketry Guild (OR), and Association of Michigan Basketmakers.
