Harry grew up in the Dutch-Amish section of Pennsylvania, where tinware was a common household item and tinsmiths still practiced their art. He has studied at the Institute of Pennsylvania Rural Life and Culture Center in Lancaster, PA, and at Eastfield Village in East Nassau, NY. He also attended skill development classes given by such master tinsmiths as Peter Blum, William McMillen, and Ramsey Pualwan, and apprenticed under master tinsmith P.B. Kelly. Harry was elected to the Folk School's board of directors in 2010.
