Kumi has been teaching how to make sushi for five years. She is native Japanese and grew up cooking in her family-owned restaurant in Japan. Kumi holds a BBA from Yamaguchi University and has lived in the U.S. for over 25 years. In 2014, she founded the Asian Culture Center of Tennessee and organized the Asian Festival, now an annual event in Knoxville. The festival presents the artwork, language, food, ceremonies, martial arts, and traditional health practices of diverse Eastern cultures -- Japan, China, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, India, and the Philippines.
