Carol enjoys teaching sewing workshops that incorporate fine traditional textile skills with contemporary sewing craft. In her travels, she researches design, technique, and meaning embodied in old world textiles and clothing, with a particular interest in everyday and rural clothing designed for work. Carol taught period clothing design, pattern making, sewing, and textile craft in universities before she began teaching heritage sewing workshops in many settings, including North House Folk School, John C. Campbell Folk School, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Students in her workshops are immersed in the culture of sewing, while creating custom garments that are ultimately practical for our lives today.
