Rich has been doing scrimshaw since 1983. He enjoys combining media, such as wood and silver, into a final piece of scrimshaw. Rich enjoys sharing his knowledge on the subject and keeping this original American art form alive. He has taught and lectured in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, California, Georgia, and Tennessee, and his work has been featured in the "National Engraver's Journal."
