Darren is a retired schoolteacher and woodworker of 22 years. He builds furniture in the early American and Shaker styles and has a particular passion for hand-tool woodworking. Darren's philosophy is to use the tool that is best for the job and to be open to new ways of doing things, whether modern or traditional. He uses every opportunity to introduce others to old methods, because they are often simple and effective. Darren doesn't believe there is only one way to do anything and that his students should be given options and the encouragement to find their own path. To him, the process and the product are equally important. As a woodworker, Darren mostly builds tables and cupboards, but has also made tall clocks and chairs. And while he has a tendency to say he's self-taught, he also recognizes that much of his inspiration has come from others along the way.
