Dave Brogan
Dave began whittling and woodcarving over 50 years ago as a youth with his first pocketknife, carving neckerchief slides from W. Ben Hunt's "Whittlin' Jim" series in "Boy's Life" magazine. In the years since, he has carved reliefs, human busts and figures, and realistic birds and animals, as well as fun whittling projects like balls in cages and wooden chains. He has studied with Vic Hood, John Burke, Jeff Phares, and other nationally known instructors. Dave is president of the Leipers Fork Carving Club in Tennessee. He teaches beginning to experienced carvers and emphasizes design, proportion, and a logical progression from layout to basic form, through final detail and finishing -- utilizing the nature of the wood to enhance the project.
