Smyth is an 18th-generation blacksmith with a forging legacy dating back to the Vikings and a storied past in the Appalachian mountains. Taught by his father, Dan Boone VII, Smyth went on to build a career designing and forging large architectural commissions in Colorado. His unique designs and works can be seen in many books, magazines, on the Internet, and has been featured in international, invitational art museum shows that highlight contemporary blacksmithing. His work expresses harmony in design and function specific to blacksmithing. Smyth has presented public and trade lectures on contemporary and historical blacksmithing, has published articles on design and technique, and teaches skills at blacksmith conferences and art and craft schools throughout the US and Canada.
