Karin Flatoy Svarstad
Share:
Karin has been researching and working with wool for more than 40 years. Since 1995, she has focused on wool from sheep native to the Viking regions of the North Atlantic, including Norway, Shetland, Orkney, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, the Outer Hebrides, and the Isle of Man. Karin's personal work draws from the rich and ancient traditions of Viking wool work, with its own charmingly whimsical and contemporary bent. Through her craft, she carries on the ingenuity and personal expression of generations of female ancestors. She has been teaching for more than 20 years, gives lectures, and travels extensively throughout the North Atlantic Sea. She exhibits work in various galleries throughout Norway, and runs a cultural center and gallery in Kalvag on the Norwegian coast.
