Jack taught individual banjo lessons full-time for 17 years before moving to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to perform at Dollywood Theme Park. He wrote a column, called Beginner's Corner, for "Banjo Newsletter Magazine." Jack has also authored over 20 books on banjo instruction and anthology, published by Mel Bay Publications and his own company, Hatfield Music. In 1988, he was on the faculty of the first banjo camp, Tennessee Banjo Institute. Jack later served as bluegrass director for the Maryland Banjo Academy. In 2004, he established his own Smoky Mountain Banjo Academy Music Camp workshop in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He continues to teach at his annual spring banjo workshop in Nashville, where he enlists the help of top-touring pros and authors.
