David has worked and exhibited across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He has been a recipient of the U.S./Japan Creative Artists Fellowship, and the National Endowment for the Arts/Central and Eastern Europe Visual Arts Fellowship. David has taught at Penland School of Crafts, The Bascom: A Center for Visual Arts, and numerous universities and colleges. His work is included in the collections of the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Museum (Japan), the Museum of American Ceramic Art, the Mobile Museum of Art, the Fuller Craft Museum, Asheville Museum of Art, and Museum of International Folk Art, among others.
