Susan is originally from Burbank, California and when she was 11 years old, her family moved to Kennesaw, Georgia. She graduated with a BFA in design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1992. Susan began taking clay workshops at Penland School of Craft in 1994 and was a Core Fellow at Penland from 1998 to 2000. As a Core Fellow Susan worked mostly in clay but also dabbled in printmaking and papermaking. Susan completed an MFA in ceramics at the University of Florida in 2007. Susan is the Clay Studio Coordinator for Penland School of Craft and resides in Spruce Pine, NC where she also maintains her own studio practice.
