Karen is a photojournalist and story developer with over thirty years of experience, starting with newspapers, moving into magazine work as a contract photographer for National Geographic Magazine. For the past decade she has been working predominately for non-profits on issues of global health, maternal and child care and conservation. Two of her books: Impact: From the Frontlines of Global Health and Nurse: A World of Care had been nominated for a Pulitzer. She has won numerous photojournalism awards over the course of her career and most recently was featured in the pretigious Communication Arts Magazine. As a Senior Fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographer, she has focused how the health of the environment is connected to the health of the communities that live on it. She has a BGS from the University of Michigan and a MA from Ohio University where she was a Knight Fellow. She is an adjunct at the GWU's Corcoran School of Art and Design.
