Carol is a self-taught textile artist, exploring the ancient and low-tech methods for cloth production known as fingerweaving and sprang. Wanting to learn more about these techniques, Carol visited collections across North American and Europe. She has made replicas of some of these items for her own understanding and for clients including George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the German Archaeological Institute, the Norwegian Army Museum, and the Arizona State Museum. She has also made modern wearables, which were accepted by the HGA’s Convergence Fashion Show in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020. Happy to share her knowledge she has taught across Canada, the US, New Zealand, and Europe. Her students find her to be both patient and enthusiastic. At the urging of her students, she published her instructional materials. She is now the author of 3 books: Fingerweaving Untangled, Sprang Unsprung, Sprang Lace Patterns, as well as numerous articles and 2 DVDs.
