Varina is a native Southerner with roots in the Appalachians who finds herself living and studying in the North of Scotland, having fallen in love with the language and culture of the Highlands and Islands. Varina is a former ESL teacher currently working on her PhD in Gaelic Studies, having completed an MA in the same at the University of Aberdeen. Varina's primary research interests are in folk culture, craft, and oral tradition.
