Davy was born in 1957 in Cherokee, NC and is the oldest of four children. He is a longtime artist who started woodcarving early in life and earning awards as a teenager. Davy won the overall grand prize at the Cherokee Fair in 1979 with his woodcarving. He has taught at Western Carolina University, Southwestern Community College, and Haywood Community College, and was also a Visiting Artist at Carteret College. Davy has long been a presenter at North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching and served on the North Carolina Arts Council. One of Davy's masks can be found in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
