Charlie took his banjo and guitar and, at a young age, left his Indiana home for Seattle. In 2003, he became a founding member of The Tallboys String Band. Soon after, he met his future wife, Charmaine Slaven, and they formed the duo Squirrel Butter. Charlie plays banjo in clawhammer and finger picking styles with great skill, creativity, and rhythm. His music is influenced by his love of old-time, bluegrass, country, blues, and jazz. An avid and inspired songwriter he has many original songs on the dozen albums that have been made by himself and his various bands. He has performed and taught at the following notable events, festivals, and music camps: The Prairie Home Companion, Bumbershoot, Pickathon, Nimble Fingers, Moose Jaw Festival, and Boston's Christmas Revels.
