Nicholas is the Director of Bands at Dawson County High School. He previously taught in Charlotte, NC at the middle and high school levels. Nicholas first learned shape note singing while a student at Western Carolina University. Since then he has continued researching different facets of the shape note tradition, collecting 19th century hymnals and manuscripts, and presenting original research at academic conferences such as the American Musical Instrument Society and Nineteenth Century Studies Association.
