Betse Ellis
Share:
Betse , originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas, grew up playing the violin, with sneak peeks into fiddling at places like the Ozark Folk Center. After earning degrees in music and writing at University of Missouri-Kansas City, Betse played in rock bands and experimental acoustic bands. And then - she found the fiddle, and life took a new direction. Betse studied fiddle with Suzy Thompson, Brad Leftwich, and Art Stamper, and then met her fiddle mentor, Violet Hensley. Her former band, The Wilders, toured internationally and played numerous significant festivals. Betse & Clarke have also toured internationally over the past seven years. Now teaching for over twenty years, Betse continues to be inspired by the process of learning and instructing. She has a unique approach to teaching tunes, using a system that identifies the iconic bowing elements that shape the phrases. Her main goal is to help others find their inner musical power.
