Joseph was born in South Mississippi, attended Jackson State University, and graduated with a degree in Art Education. He trained at the Art Students League of NYC for 5 years under a full scholarship, then served in the US Army as an illustrator for three years. Joseph returned to Mississippi and worked at Stennis Space Center as an Illustrator, retiring after 20 years. During this time, he continued to practice and hone his skills as a professional artist. Joseph earned the Master of Education degree from William Carey College in 1994 and has participated in numerous museum shows, regional, national and international competitions. His awards include a UCROSS Foundation Residency, a Vermont Studio Center Residency, a Hambidge Creative Arts and Science Center residency in Rabun Gap, GA., a Louisiana Division of the Arts Artist Entrepreneur grant, two Pollock-Krasner Foundation of NY grants, and an Artists' Fellowship Inc. of New York grant.
