Deborah comes from a long line of knitters, lacemakers, seamstresses and embroiderers. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from the University of South Carolina. She has also worked as a potter and a fiber artist. Deborah first studied shoemaking with Jessica Brommer in Asheville, NC in 2015. In the Spring of 2018, she took an 8-week shoe- and bootmaking concentration at Penland School of Crafts with Amara Hark Weber. In her Asheville studio Deborah makes custom, handmade shoes and boots using hand-welted, pegged, and cemented shoe construction methods. At Footwear Symposium 2018 she earned a "shout out" for her hand-welted Balmoral button boots. Deborah is interested in making custom shoes for Folk Dancers, as well as historical footwear for both the stage and everyday use.
