Annie grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and was taught to knit at age 3 by her mother. She mostly learned on her own, but has studied with Barbara Walker, Galina Khmeleva, Nancy Bush, Jackie Erikson-Schweitzer, Beth Brown-Reinsel, and Priscilla Gibson-Roberts, along with others. (If Annie becomes famous, she promises to hyphenate her last name, too.) She has been teaching for more than 20 years at Southeast Fiber Forum, Plying the Arts, Emory University's Center for Lifelong Learning, Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta, Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild, and at the Folk School since 2002.
