Harley specializes in Scandinavian-style, flat-plane carving -- most often caricatures of farmers, laborers, and common folk. He has taught throughout the U.S. and in Scandinavia since the early 1980s. In 1996, he was decorated by the King and government of Norway for his contributions to Norwegian folk art, especially figure carving. Harley was featured in the 2013 Craft in America "Holiday" episode on PBS; is author of books such as "Art and Technique of Scandinavian Style Woodcarving" and "Whittling Little Folk"; and has written many carving-related articles for "WOOD®" magazine and "Woodcarving Illustrated."
