Mike began his clay career at a teacher recertification course, which led to a full-time teaching position at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, FL. His program developed into a nationally recognized center for clay. He did postgraduate studies at the Kansas City Art Institute and Western Carolina University. His work has been published in "Clay Times" and can be found in the Florida Governor's Mansion. He also designed and produced the lighthouse finial for Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure®. He now works out of his 'by His hand' studio in Murphy, NC, and is the Folk School's Clay Resident Artist. Mike has also been drawing for decades. He has won numerous awards for his drawings and pastels, has illustrated three books, and teaches locally.
