Dancing, Playing & Singing Appalachian Style!
Date: Sunday, May 17 - Saturday, May 23, 2020
Subject: Dance, Music
Instructor: Aubrey Atwater
Share:

Delve into the wonders of traditional Appalachian dance, singing, and music. As a group, experience flatfooting and freestyle clogging steps, as well as traditional play-party games and dances geared to young people and older adults (wonderful for educators). We'll learn and sing beautiful and joyous traditional Appalachian songs and ballads as a means to explore the remarkable cultural history and heritage of the region. As time and access allow, try Appalachian instruments, too, such as the mountain dulcimer, limberjack, and banjo. All levels welcome. This class is featured in our "Passing On Appalachian Traditions" series, and is designed to connect highly skilled Appalachian craft instructors with present-day students. Instruction includes historical and cultural relevance, in addition to helping students understand, recognize, and practice traditional Appalachian skills and techniques.

Tuition: $630.00
